Help Support Bounce At SXSW

January 28th, 2010

New Orleans Block Party

For the first time, the South By Southwest music conference is hosting an official showcase of classic bounce and the artists need financial support to help make this happen. Artists on the bill include Partners-N-Crime, DJ Jubilee, Katey Red, Big Freedia, Vockah Redu, Magnolia Shorty and Ms Tee.

As you may know, SXSW has booked its first-ever official showcase of
classic New Orleans bounce. The seven artists on the bill are all
straight-up originators of the sound, and few have gotten their just
due for their awesome contribution to New Orleans music. We need your
help getting them to Austin in March, and we have some kickass rewards
in store for generous helpers who believe in getting the music out
there.

Below is the link to our fundraising page. Please blog it, share it,
forward it, repost it and do all those social networking things people
do with it!

Mentioned In The Jamaica Star

January 21st, 2010

Ms. Thing

Last week, the newspaper The Jamaica Star wrote a cover story about Ms Thing & Psycho Tanbad’s voicing of my “Smoke Machine Riddim” (the track Vybz Kartel wrote “Yuh Love” on). Their new voicing is called “Bonify” and they have shot a somewhat scandalous video that you can check out over at Mixpak. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

With a raunchy video circulating on the Internet, dancehall artiste Ms Thing says she has no problem appearing nude in the raw version of her Bonify music video.

The sexually explicit video for the song, which is a collaboration with Psycho Tanbad, surfaced on the Internet recently. The video was done by Terminal 4 Media, while the song was produced by Dre Skull, from New York.

But there is also an edited version that has been on local TV for a few weeks. The raw version, Ms Thing says, is strictly for the Internet.

In the first scene, Psycho Tanbad lays on top of Ms Thing, with both of them appearing nude. At some points, Ms Thing’s breasts are exposed but both their lower bodies are slightly blurred. There is also a scene where they are in a shower together, hugging and rubbing down each other. Her breasts are also fully shown here. She is also nude while in the Jacuzzi.

Sensational: Brother From Another Planet

November 26th, 2009

Sensational The Wire Cover

Sensational is rapper that used to crash on my couch way back when. Whenever he was over, we would record tracks which he would burn on CDRs and sell in the streets. Once, one of those CDs made it into the hands of a Village Voice writer who reviewed it and I was both amazed and feeling great about working with an underground legend. Sensational came into the game in 1994 as a late addition to the Jungle Brothers and he has been grinding all these years. I just got an email from a friend this afternoon that he’s on the cover of The Wire. That’s got me feeling that everything is right with this world, just keep doing what you do and good things will come.

Watch this exclusive Sensational European/Japan Tour Video and grab a copy of The Wire.

Can’t wait to read it. Chunk of bliss!

Udachi & Jubilee – Paypur EP

September 8th, 2009

Udachi Jubilee Paypur Cover

Brand new release from Nightshifters. This is a massive EP and I’m excited to have contributed a remix.

Today Nightshifters releases our latest Ep, and this one is a real explosion of awesome! This time it’s a collaborative effort between two of New York’s Hottest DJ/producers Udachi and Jubilee! AC Slater states “This could easily be the biggest release of 2009. I’ve been playing this in every one of my DJ sets for the past 6 months.” Garnering support from the likes of Tommie Sunshine, Fake Blood, DJ Craze, and Klever, and BBC Radio 1 Airplay on Kissy Sellouts show!

While the two original tracks are simply amazing, the remixes are equally incredible. Nick Catchdubs enlists hot-as-fuck lyricist Kid Daytona to re-construct Paypur into a screwed dirty south styled jam filled with swagger and ready for radio airplay. Venezuela’s Cardopusher cranks the bass to the maxx with his mosh-pit-dubstep remix of the same tune, while Thunderheist’s Grahmzilla flips the vibe into an expansive techno affair ready for your next sunrise session. Breakbeat hardcore legend Luna-C turns Smoke Rings into a dub-bass rave anthem of the next level akin to ‘SL2 on a ragga tip’. And while a rave vibe can also be felt in Dre Skull’s incredible remix, he pushes up the Funky snares and adds a sinister breakdown that’s sure to get shirts flung off the dance floor.

Grab the A-side free of charge.

But please support the full release on Beatport.

Last but not least, check this video for the B-side “Smoke Rings.” Madness.
