Vybz Kartel’s “Kingston Story” album received some great end of the year press.

• Large Up choose the album as number two in their Best Caribbean Albums of 2011 list.
• Dean Bein owner of True Panther Sounds picked the album in his Top Albums list (scroll down for his picks).
• Rob Pursey also gave a nod in his Top 20 Albums of 2011 list over at Southern Hospitality.
• And, finally, One Love Caribbean choose Kingston Story as the best dancehall album of the year.

Kingston Story contains all the writing abilities of Vybz Kartel and all the composing talent of Dre Skull to create excellent crossover material. I definitely have newfound respect for Vybz Kartel’s music after listening to this, and I’m really looking forward to more Dre Skull full length work like this one.

It’s was almost exactly a year ago that I first went down to Kingston, Jamaica to record a few songs with Vybz Kartel and at the the time, we had not yet considered doing an album. Those first few tracks seemed to have something special about them which gave rise to the idea of us doing a full length…and here we are today. Need a soundtrack to your summer?
